Gas Cleaning

Howden offers fabric filter plants to the power generation industry in Southern Africa for the control of particulate emissions.  These are supplied by Bateman Howden, part of Howden Africa.

Our fabric filter design uses a low-pressure high-volume pulse to clean the filter bags. We carry out the entire design, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to ensure optimum operation.  The pulse air blowers are very efficient and will reliably produce low energy pulse air for many years.  Compared to high-pressure pulse cleaning systems, low pressure cleaning enhances bag life; there is less flex fatigue of the bag fabric.

The system requires little maintenance and when required it can be carried out easily.  Apart from the scheduled bag changes there are very few components that require replacement provided the basic maintenance schedule is followed.

The complete pulse air manifold rotating mechanism is accessible for maintenance while the boiler is in service.

There is no need for removal of the pulse air manifolds (pulse distribution pipes) during inspection, installation and replacement of filter bags. The manifold assembly is simply turned away to expose the filter bags and cages. The drive gear motor assembly with the manifold drive pinion can be replaced within a short time.
