1952    James Howden & Company Africa (Pty) is established in South Africa, supplying fans for 
           mining and power

1953    Howden acquires Safanco Ltd, in Booysens, Johannesburg.

1972    Diversified into pumps

1982    Expansion into mine cooling and refrigeration systems 

1988    Acquired Airtec Davidson Fans. Consolidated leadership position in large fans

1988    Diversified into air and gas cleaning products

1988    Acquisition of Donkin Manufacturing strengthened position in medium / small fans

1988    Acquisition of Airflo Zimbabwe (Industrial Fans)

1991    Established JV company with Lurgi for gas cleaning (now Bateman Howden)

1996    Acquisition of Mono Pumps and M & B Pumps

1996    Howden Africa Holdings is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange

1997    Acquisition of GP Services

1997    Acquisition of Locked Torque-Africa

1998    Acquisition of Pumpmaker

1999    Established Engart Australasia

2000    Acquisition of 3Ts International (subsequently sold)

2000    Established Howden Projects to manage large scale environmental projects

2001    Established Engart America Inc. (subsequently sold)
